Do you have a blog yet? Also known as a weblog. Blogging and website Directories is where you can post any information (and affiliate links!) about your business and personal interests.
Think about how many changes you have in any given week to your website. Any reason you make changes to your site, give people the opportunity to check it out. Therefore, post it to your blog. To be invited into a blog directory you have to have a blog!
You will get more benefit from a blog that isn’t hosted on your website because it is considered a website in itself. Every post you write should include a link to one of the pages of your website using your keywords as anchor text. By offering good information on your blog, you will direct customers to your website.
Blog directories will ist your blog in its relevant category and bring traffic to your blog. All you need to do is write about your business. This is by far the easiest way to generate traffic to your website or blog. All you have to do is sign up for a blog service. I have included a few I like in my resource section of this site.
Special Notes on Blogging and Formats:
Inside your blog posts you must include special tags. Technorati and icerocket show you how to do this but for the layman I have included the Technorati format at the bottom of this page. Insert this at the end of every blog post (or in the middle) along with your keyword you are trying to get traffic for. This will get your blog posted in your chosen keyword’s tags page and give you extra links to your blog.
After every post to your blog, you must “ping” blog directories to let them know that you have posted. I have included the pinging services to the bottom of this page.
A note to all, every blog has an RSS feed. This stands for Really Simple Syndication.
All directories will allow you to add your RSS feed into your ping. Make sure you add it, because that will allow the sites to monitor your blog and will update their records every time you post. Just in case, I still ping every time I post to my blog. You must submit your Blog’s feed to RSS directories as well.
Bottom line, this is a cheap way to generate traffic. The cost to you is your time and about zero dollars/ month.
