Think about it: What if what you produced is old and now there is new technology out that makes your product obsolete. You have to keep up with trends in technology and wants of your audience so you can gear your products or other peoples products like that of affiliate marketing to the new designs or methods of effective advertisement. This is the way to win customers and keep business.
Social aspects of the marketplace can also influence your business profit line. If you are marketing to an area that no longer needs or supports your products, you will lose business quickly. One rule you always need to remember is to apply the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) method to your marketing. This is an analysis that you can use to help identify effective strategies that will work for you. Such as, your strengths (writing maybe) or anything else you may have to benefit others. Weaknesses or barriers to your accomplishments. Opportunites others are looking for. The threat comes from competition, you want to be #1!
Many successful firms like Microsoft use this ideology everyday and as you can see it works.
The SWOT method allows companies to evaluate where they are in terms of their strengths in the marketplace. The marketer looks at where they are in the marketplace in the realm of what they are achieving.
The marketer does research and finds opportunities to reach a broader market so the company can strengthen their hold on a large market share.
The marketer will also look at where the company is weak or lacks regarding the market, and improves on those areas. For example, if the marketer finds that the products his company makes is no longer usable to consumers because a newer product made by a competitor is better, then the marketer will use his influence to make sure his company upgrades their products to crush the competition. This way the company gets its share of the market back.
Consumer Behavior (What do they want?)
The one aspect to marketing that a good marketer must look at is consumer behavior. What are consumers doing now, that they didn’t do two years ago? Is there a trend setting in that is forcing consumers to alter their ideals of what they want in the marketplace?
Suppose a particular industry, which never was in the marketplace before, finds a way in, and begins to dominate the market. This can cause a shift in perspective by the consumer toward what he/she really wants. In other words, the new industry could make such a huge impact that it could change the way consumers think.
Another way that consumer thinking can change their behavior is by the value they hold regarding what is in the market (working on line is a HUGE business as is HOMEBASED BUSINESS OPPORTUNITES). Many consumers rely on others to decide what is best to purchase. They basically follow the leader and buy what others buy. They want to be with the “in crowd” as it were. So if they see people switching gears and changing their buying habits, nine times out of ten, other consumers will do the same.
Consumers are usually affected by attitudes of others, their own belief systems, the affect that others have on what they use, and what particular brand is being bought the most.
Consumers are also directly influenced by close family ties and culture. Whatever the consumer’s family suggests is what the consumer usually goes with. Also, whatever the customer’s background, ethnic group, and buying habits may be, also influence the consumer’s buying in the market.
As a marketer, you have to look into all areas of the market and deal with consumers around these issues. This means doing a lot of research to find out what makes the average consumer tick.
What is it about the consumer that makes that person choose the product they use? This can be done by surveys, questionnaires, reading discussion in online forums, finding the popular books in stores or Amazon.com. Think of where people would go online to discuss or buy what they are interested in. Or try http://www.googletrends.com/ and see what people are searching for.
The primary goal of a marketer is to get the product into the hands of as many consumers as possible. Having a solid plan of action before hand can help immensely in getting the marketer on target for his market. Give your chosen market what it wants.
